Also!

I will be part of a production filming a piece about Dred Scott and the landmark Supreme Court decision! I will be playing Dr. Emerson’s wife, Irene Emerson. I am SO excited about this — the script looked fantastic and the character has such amazing potential. There’s a meeting this Sunday to get started! Squee!

Aaaand, the theatre company I have been working with asked me to be part of their Company (troupe, if you will). If you’re in the L.A. area, check out Atwater Playhouse and their showcases — I’ll be there. ACTING.

Acting Update!

Filed under: Life — Kate @ 3:12 pm

A handful of cool stuff has been happening lately.

First, I have been nailing auditions. I even had one guy e-mail me to say that they thought I was by far the best actress they saw all day! I wasn’t picked for that project; they wanted to use me for the feature. Even so, it’s super nice to know that, uh, I’m not wasting my time in this business.

Also, I switched theatre companies about a month ago; same acting method and everything, just infinitely closer to the house. I love it. I’m impressed with the quality of acting they produce and I feel like I’m putting my already-learned skills to use and picking up new ones. Just now, I got a call from theatre to tell me that a casting director wanted the company members to send her a headshot/resume… and they want to include me even though I’m not in the company! So yeah. I’m excited.

I hope this upturn just keeps on turning up!

The Acting World

Filed under: Life — Kate @ 11:24 am

Since getting two SAG vouchers, I haven’t been called in for anything else. Sort of. I did get a call the day Brad and I moved into our new house — but that was a pretty much no-go and I had to turn it down. Which sucked! I have reached the ‘waiting game’ part again; I call into the service, they pass my photo around, rinse and repeat. Hopefully I’ll hear something soon.

In the interim, my class has kept me working on a whirlwind of stuff. It’s actually a little overwhelming and I may need a tiny break for the week. It probably doesn’t help that I’m not feeling well! Thus far, I have worked on a scene from Everything in the Garden by Albee, A Doll’s House by Isben, and Fool for Love by Shepard. I can’t say I felt Albee’s piece — it’s not quite working, which isn’t helping the down feeling. The Isben is classic and I think we found the two characters, but I wanted to work on it a little more and my acting partner went MIA for a month or so. Shepard I adored, really adored. I could get INTO May. My acting partner was awesome; we feed off each other. That said, it’s draining. When I finish the scene, it’s tough to do much other than want to sleep. Or maybe that’s just the cold!
